The book sector in Spain lacks transparency and it is practically impossible for authors/translators to confirm the information they receive on the royalties reports sent by publishers, especially in terms of book sales.
For this reason, the ACE Traductores (Sección Autónoma de Traductores de Libros de la Asociación Colegial de Escritores) recently signed an agreement on cooperation with CEGAL (Spanish Confederation of Bookseller’s Guilds and Associations). This agreement with will allow ACE members to request sales reports of the titles they have translated, as well as other data related with their works.
After several years of negotiations with ACE’s board members, CEGAL itself has seen the need to promote transparency in the sector. Thanks to this agreement, CEGAL makes available to ACE members the data provided by the LIBRIRED platform, a digital platform booksellers use which offers real and accurate sales data, not only statistics. It also offers data on title’s availability, editions, sales trends, etc.
Each ACE member can request up to two annual reports and, in each report, they will receive information on up to five ISBNs. The report includes sales data for the current year and the three previous years. The application must be made through the association, which will subsidize part of the cost of the report.
